The coffee maker you use can make or break your coffee. With the right machine, you will enjoy rich cups of hot brew every day, while a cheap or poorly functioning one will never turn out the right kind of coffee. Selecting a coffee maker is serious business and it helps to inform yourself ahead of time as to what is available.

The majority of people don’t have time for fancy French presses or other methods of brewing their coffee, so we’ll be looking at automatic drip machines, of which there are quite a few different kinds.

If you are the only person who drinks coffee in your house and you either limit yourself to one or two cups a day or prefer to brew a fresh pot each time, a single serve coffee maker is ideal. This type of coffee maker uses coffee pods, which look like tea bags, to brew just one cup at a time. These types of coffee makers are fairly limited in the manners of usage, you can usually only choose the size of the cup and nothing more. However, if you want to make more coffee, whether for sharing among several people or to be taken throughout the day, a more traditional style brewer might be better. Of these, you have the choice of a hot plate or carafe style.

The hot plate is the most common, with the glass coffee pot sitting on a heating pad to maintain the coffee at a hot temperature. This tends to create a not so pleasant coffee if it sits all day, though, so you might be better off serving this style of coffee immediately.

The carafe is basically a thermos that uses the coffee’s own heat to preserve the temperature and it tends to produce a better tasting coffee over the period of a day. While this is a nice feature if you are looking for a new coffee maker, you can simply use a thermos if you already have a hot plate version. The carafe tends to be a little more costly than a hot plate, as well.

A hot plate or carafe coffee maker will likely have a timer so you can set it to start brewing right before you get up, ensuring fresh, hot coffee to start your morning. These larger coffee makers also tend to have quite the array of features, each one making it a little more expensive. It is usually in your best interest to ignore the features you don’t want or need and go for a simpler maker.

Choosing a coffee maker is a big decision and if you select the right one, you will not regret it. Having a great cup of coffee every morning is easy with the correct brewing machine!

Coffee bean roasting has long been a mysterious process, but more recently, it is being opened up to the home roaster. Roasting your own coffee beans is really not that difficult. In fact, this article will tell you just how to get started.

You already know that you can save money by brewing coffee at home, but by roasting your own beans, you can add even more to your savings. All you need are green coffee beans and an oven or coffee roaster. There are a wide variety of methods to heat the beans enough to roast them, but the easiest is probably just to use the oven or your popcorn popper.

The first step is to get some green coffee beans, or raw coffee beans. These are the beans that have had the berries removed and have been dried, but not roasted. Most coffee suppliers will also sell green beans and they last for a very long time, so you can buy in bulk and just roast a small amount at a time.

If you want to oven roast, preheat the oven to 500º and spread the green coffee beans out on a cookie sheet, making sure they are evenly spread out and only in one layer. Having small clusters or beans piled up on top of each other will give you an uneven roast.

While roasting your coffee beans, you need to be right by the oven, since they can burn very easily. The first 8 minutes or so are not as crucial. You will hear a crackling sound and the beans will start to smoke after about ten minutes. . . this is when you need to really pay attention. Watch through the oven door to see when the beans reach the right roast color for your preferences. This should be about 2-3 minutes after the crackling stage.

It is also possible to roast the beans in your popcorn popper, just dump them in and turn it on. Be aware, however, that it is likely you will end up with a lot of chaff blowing out of the popper, so you may want to do this near an open window where the debris can be blown outside.

An important note, when roasting beans, remember that they will continue to cook for a minute or two after they are taken away from the heat, so be sure to cool them quickly. This can be done by pouring them into a bowl and stirring rapidly, or placing them in front of a fan.

Roasting your own coffee beans will give you a whole new brewing experience. The taste is incomparable to beans that have been roasted and let sit for days, you’ll never want to go back!

For those die-hard coffee addicts, all the bad reports in the world won’t stop them from drinking their favorite beverage. However, there are also reports on the health benefits of coffee, which might interest many of you. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why coffee really is good for you.

Coffee can cut your risk of type two diabetes up to 54%! Yup, if you drink 6+ cups of this beverage a day, women chop their risk by 30% while men get a whopping 54% drop. Not bad! This is based on a Harvard study that covers nearly 18 years and 126,000 people. Oh, but you need to be drinking caffeinated coffee for this to work, apparently.

Regular coffee drinkers are much less likely to get Parkinson’s disease. Once again, the benefits are linked directly to the caffeine in your latte or espresso, de-caf just won’t cut it. According to recent studies, the more you drink, the lower your risk, but the general consensus is that you can reduce your chances of contracting this nasty degenerative disease by around 80% just by drinking coffee.

A couple cups of java can be a great way to boost physical performance in athletes and anyone who works out. This is very beneficial whether you have a marathon to run or just want to work out a little longer. That cup of coffee in the morning can be just what you need before hitting the gym.

Antioxidants are another great ingredient in coffee. Antioxidants are believed to help prevent cancer, as well as heart disease, stroke and cataracts among others. They also slow the aging process of cells and help repel free radicals which also damage the cells.

Coffee beans also contain trigonelline, an antibacterial compound that gives coffee that strong bitter taste and the heavenly aroma. Trigonelline is also an anti-adhesive and Italian researchers believe it may even help prevent cavities!

Coffee has also been said to help prevent gallstones, colon cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, and can help treat asthma and headaches. In fact, several leading brands of headache medication actually contain the same amount of caffeine as a large cup of coffee. All this from something that has had a lot of bad publicity over the years!

Yes, there are some incredible health benefits to coffee, so don’t give up on your morning Starbucks run just yet. You can always point people to this article if they tell you that you should quit.

A Little Coffee Trivia
By Steve J Carter

Coffee is such a normal part of almost everybody’s daily life that we don’t give it much thought. The likelihood that you have coffee available to you at home at work and at every street corner where they could jam in a Starbucks are pretty good. And even if you yourself don’t drink the stuff, there is no avoiding the plentiful supply of coffee in almost every sector of society and every building both public and private that you might wander into.

Coffee is so popular that a little trivia about it makes for some good chatter around the table at Starbucks. It is the most popular drink coming just under tea and water worldwide. And in terms of gross sales, coffee is by far the most actively traded product in the world second only to petroleum. So if there is ever a coffee embargo, we are all in big trouble!

You probably never thought about where the word “coffee” came from and just thought that that is what it’s called and that’s all there is to it. But the words from around the world that apply to the drink that comes from coffee beans are pretty diverse including caffe in Italian, keheh in Turkish, gahwa in the Arab world and bunna in Africa. But the word “coffee” may have come to us from Ethiopia where the plant that produces those luscious beans comes from the Kaffa region of the country. Ergo beans from Kaffa = Coffee. You can see the connection.

Despite the tremendous popularity of coffee worldwide, it has not been a drink that has been without controversy throughout history. Even today we occasionally see a scientific study that tries to prove that coffee is bad for you. Then almost the next week another scientific study comes out that proves that coffee is good for you so it’s hard to say. For most of us who drink the stuff, it’s very good for us indeed.

Even culturally coffee has had its trials and tribulations from time to time. Coffee actually came to the western world through Italy when the beans were imported to Rome from the Middle East. But even in Islamic countries where coffee started its trip to us from, coffee was outlawed from time to time.

When coffee finally reached Italy, it was branded the devils drink by the church because the countries that brought it to the western world were Islamic. It took the pope himself to step in when just as he was about to cave in and declare coffee evil, he insisted on tasting it.

One taste and he was a convert and instead of banning it, he baptized it as “very good indeed” and the Italian went on to give us some of the most delightful coffee drinks including espresso and cappuccino. In fact, it was in an Italian coffee shop that the founder of Starbucks decided to start his worldwide chain of coffee shops.

Coffee is as essential to an office as are desks or computers. The coffee that is provided in the workplace helps employees to be alert and perform their jobs at a high level. The caffeine contained in coffee provides a burst of energy to keep workers sharp and alert. Espresso is no different in its beneficial effects, and as a result, many companies are choosing to place an office espresso machine in their offices.

An office espresso machine has all of the same components of your standard home espresso machine. The only difference is that an espresso office machine is specifically designed to produce larger amounts of espresso at a faster rate. Choosing the right espresso machine for the office will largely depend on the number of workers it will be serving. This number will determine how many cups you will need the espresso maker to produce.

One feature you will want to look for in an espresso machine for the office is an overall ease of use. Several different people will probably be using the machine so you want to be sure that it is not too difficult to operate. It should also be fairly easily cleaned, as some espresso machines can be quite difficult to clean.

I would highly recommend purchasing a fully automatic office espresso machine, which as the name indicates is automatic and can produce espresso on its own without any human effort. If you have a larger office, a fully automatic office espresso machine is probably your best option.

There are a number of great places to find an office espresso machine, both online and offline. Many office supply stores carry espresso machines designed specifically for an office setting. However, if you want to get a truly great deal on an espresso machine, shopping on the internet will find you the best bargains. eBay in particular has an extensive selection of espresso office machines, both new and used, and at unbeatable low prices.

Discover how to get a truly great deal on an [http://www.espressomachinesforless.com/office-espresso-machine.html]Office Espresso Machine. Check out http://www.EspressoMachinesForLess.com for helpful espresso information, and to find all types of espresso machines at bargain basement prices!

If you love coffee, then you need to know what keeps the flavors at their peek.

For the freshest coffee, you should use your coffee beans within 45 days of roasting, and in half that time if they are already ground. It is for this reason, that you should not buy your coffee beans in bulk!

Coffee should be brewed in 4-5 minutes using 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 ounces of filtered water. Tap water alters the taste of the coffee, so use spring or filtered water.

Make sure the wet the paper filter first (if using a drip coffee machine) as this takes away that paper taste from the filter. Freshly grind your coffee beans using a medium setting, and do not leave the coffee sitting on the warming tray, make enough to consume right away, for the perfect cup of coffee.

If you are using one of those French Presses to make your coffee, then freshly grind your coffee beans using a course setting, remove the plunger, place your ground coffee at the bottom and add your boiled water. Do not pour absolute boiling water over the coffee, the temperature should be about 205 degrees, just under the boiled point. After 4-5 minutes press down the plunger to separate the grounds from the coffee. Making the perfect cup of coffee can take a few minutes, its not something you do while stuffing a donut in your mouth and putting on your coat at the same time! You should not be rushed.

Grab a chair, your newspaper, take a relaxing deep breath, and sip your coffee and enjoy! http://www.my-pampered-kitchen.com/gourmetcoffee.html is an article by Diane Palmer

Around seventy percent of the world’s coffee production comes from the famous Arabica tree. Gourmet coffee made from the beans of this plant tastes great and holds a premium position in the market. The tree traces its origin to Northeastern Africa. Now grown across the world, Arabica trees can grow to forty feet in the wild. To harvest the beans, the tree is regularly pruned to eight feet. Gourmet coffee beans from this plant are usually harvested from this tree three times a year for 30 years.

Robusta coffee beans come from a hotter and a high humidity climate. Found extensively in West and Central America, Southeast Asia and parts of South America, these beans are regularly used to blend in with the Arabica variety. They contain higher caffeine content, are more disease resistant and produce two to three pounds of beans per year. The yield is twice the amount of the Arabica tree. All of these reasons are why Robusta beans are less expensive than Arabica beans. However, many people nevertheless prefer the more robust flavor of the less expensive coffee beans. To each his or her own.

The temperature at which the beans are roasted contributes to the taste of the coffee. Blending or mixing two varieties of beans is also done to add variety to the flavor. The Europeans are known to prefer a dark variety of beans, while Americans prefer lighter shades. Gourmet beans should be kept in oxygen proof bags away from direct heat sources to retain their freshness.
